Managing Increased Demand for Distribution Services during Holiday Season in the Philippines

The holidays are rolling and that means that distribution services in the Philippines have their hand tied and their work cut out for them. Retailers, wholesalers, will be in the spirit of selling because the general public will be eager to spend their holiday bonuses. While ‘tis might be the season for making merry, it also means that ‘tis the season for marring deliveries. As a logistics provider, here are 4  tips to help you manage.

Account for Seasonal Shipment

Your regular shipment is your expected shipment all year round. It’s the shipment you make regardless of season that may include necessities like food, clothing, materials, chemical, and more. Seasonal cargo are those that only gain traction or increase in demand depending on the season like flowers during Valentines and late October, or Christmas décor during the –ber months. Make sure that you allot additional vessels because during the holidays, most of your clients might sign you up for additional deliveries.

Calibrate Shipment Scheduling

If you have been in the business for a long time, you know that the season can bear on you an overwhelming demand. Put in preventive measures to manage delays. For old clients with non-perishable goods, see if you can negotiate the shipment in advance to anticipate seasonal demand. Every other distribution service provider in the Philippines will be busy throughout the season so you can encourage pre-scheduling internally and with clients.

Account for Traffic

The biggest enemy of any delivery service in the Philippines is traffic. Traffic in the country is so bad, it’s even become an enemy of the public. Account for this when making shipments. Aside from calibrating schedules, give additional time to deploy deliveries earlier to account for traffic. Learn all the routes that your vehicles can traverse to avoid major roads.

Hire Additional Help

Not only will there be an increased demand for vehicles on the road but more so, you will need additional help to expedite the delivery. You may need additional substitute drivers, but also people to do the package processing. Even if you have the trucks for the job, they aren’t going anywhere if the shipments can’t be processed swiftly so consider hiring seasonal contractuals to help in the short term demand surge for distribution services in the Philippines.
